What we renovate

Renovation work we take on

We are a builder, not a handyman service. The projects below are where our experience sits, and where we do our best work.

Whole home renovations

Full internal reconfiguration and rebuild, often paired with an extension. Structural work, new services, new kitchens and bathrooms, finished to an architectural standard.

Extensions and additions

Ground floor and rear extensions that open a home to its garden and light. We manage the structural engineering, the excavation and the integration with the existing building.

Second storey additions

Adding a floor without losing the character of what is below. Complex work involving structural upgrades, access and staging, so families can often stay in place longer.

Heritage and terrace

Victorian and Federation terraces in conservation areas. We build to heritage conditions, retain what matters and bring the rest of the home into the present.

Where we work

Sydney's Inner West and Lower North Shore

We renovate across Greater Sydney, though most of our work sits in these areas. Being close to site matters on a renovation, because the questions that come up need answering the same day.

Common questions

Before you get in touch

Which parts of Sydney do you renovate in?

We work across Greater Sydney, with most of our renovation work in the Inner West and on the Lower North Shore. If you are outside those areas, ask anyway and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit.

Do you handle council approvals and heritage?

Yes. Many of the homes we renovate sit in heritage conservation areas. We work alongside your architect and private certifier through the DA or CDC process, and we build to heritage conditions regularly.

What does a Sydney renovation cost?

It depends entirely on scope, site access and finish level, and any builder who quotes a number before seeing your plans is guessing. We give you a realistic figure once we have seen the site. The first conversation is free.

Are you a licensed builder?

Yes. Criterion Projects is a fully licensed building contractor in New South Wales, and we hold all required licences and insurances for residential building work, including Home Building Compensation cover.

Can we stay in the house during the build?

Sometimes, depending on the scope and how the work can be staged. We will give you a straight answer at the consultation rather than a comfortable one, because planning around it early saves money and stress.

How long does a renovation take?

A significant whole home renovation with an extension typically runs several months on site, with approvals ahead of that. We give you a programme with your quote so you can plan properly.
